“IoT for the greater good”

- What concepts can be implemented to leverage IoT in the pursuit of the sustainable society of tomorrow?

Background: IoT is becoming an increasingly important field to help us at Södertälje municipality work towards a more sustainable society within waste and resource management. For example, we now have connected litter bins with sensors to determine when they need emptying. This solution ensures that bins are emptied in time, when needed, while minimizing unnecessary resources to check bins that are not full. We believe that similar solutions may exist, where IoT can be used for smart and effective transformation to a more sustainable and modern society. 

Which solutions can be implemented to help us speed up the development towards a more sustainable society? How can existing processes be equipped and connected, to be made smarter and more efficiently used?

Constraints to consider:

• How does this solution match or complement existing solutions already implemented in Södertälje?
• What are the technical, ethical, social and economical challenges of implementing the solution?

Impact: A connected society, where IoT is leveraged to increase efficiency and sustainability of public services.

- Vilka koncept kan implementeras för att utnyttja IoT i strävan efter morgondagens hållbara samhälle?

Bakgrund: IoT blir ett allt viktigare område för att hjälpa oss på Södertälje kommun att arbeta mot ett mer hållbart samhälle inom avfalls- och resurshantering. Till exempel har vi nu anslutna papperskorgar med sensorer som avgör när de behöver tömmas. Denna lösning säkerställer att kärl töms i tid när det behövs, samtidigt som onödiga resurser för att kontrollera kärl som inte är fulla minimeras. Vi tror att det finns fler liknande lösningar, där IoT kan användas för smart och effektiv transformation till ett mer hållbart och modernt samhälle.

Vilka lösningar kan implementeras för att hjälpa oss påskynda utvecklingen mot ett mer hållbart samhälle? Hur kan befintliga processer utrustas och kopplas samman, för att göras smartare och användas mer effektivt?
